“Strong dialogue and excellent character interaction engross the reader. Often when a story is told in first person, the reader doesn’t really get to understand or know the other characters in the book very well. Ms. Tompkins has done a superb job of showing us vis-à-vis the dialogue and interaction a great deal about Tarrek and Bahlin and other secondary characters so the reader is fully engaged with all of them. The world created by the author feels real, and the mystery is intriguing. And lest I forget, the romance while not the main point of the novel is still scorching! This is Ms.Tompkins’s debut novel and all I can say is brava!”

What follows is heartbreak, new love, romance, suspense, and drama as Maddy loses one love only to gain a new, greater love. But if the reader is hesitant to root for the new lover Hellion over Bahlin, Maddy is downright determined not to at first. Throughout this exploration of fresh love, the reader suffers along with Maddy as she agonizes over the love she lost and worries about her as she
tracks down a deadly killer who is targeting her.
Verdict: This second book in the series (after Legacy) is easy to follow and impossible to put down. Add in wizards, warlocks, vampires, fairies, and dragons, and you have a truly spectacular story. Recommended to anyone who enjoys supernatural thrillers, as well as readers who have a taste for a good mystery with some flights of fantasy.
